Today on itunes the PussyCat Dolls song "When I Grow Up" was on their top ten most purchased songs. I'm guessing the majority of the purchasers were young girls. I'm all for the song's message to encourage dreaming for your future. However this is what the Pussycat Dolls are wishing for: to be famous, a star, be in movies, drive nice cares, have groupies, be on TV, and to be on magazines.
Where are the songs encouraging girls to: become doctors, write novels, run for president, give to others, help improve their communities, take care of the environment, have a strong family, etc... We are desperately in need of positive messages within our community and culture that inspire girls toward happy and healthy lifestyles.
Let's take a closer listen at what our music glorifies as success.
